Financial Communications 101
As I reflected on my first week in the offices of CJP Communications, my mind jogged through PowerPoint presentations on PR software and danced around discussions of the 'perfect pitch.' After two days of orientation and a dose of courage, I considered myself prepared to dive into the sea of financial communications. I wish I could say it was all smooth sailing but I admit I felt as though I was treading water when it came to understanding investments. Until I came across this quote while reading one night before bed...
"The universe is like a pension plan. It will match your investment. If you put 10 percent of your potential in, it will match that 10 percent and you will be operating at 20 percent of your possibilities. But if you put in 100 percent, the global collective will kick in and give you an additional 100 percent back on your return. It's the best investment plan I know—being proactive about your life." - Camryn Manheim
The quote came from the book What I Know Now, Letters to My Younger Self by Ellyn Spragins. It was a college graduation gift given to inspire me with words of wisdom from some of the most extraordinary and successful women that ever lived. Needless to say, not only has the book motivated me to propel myself through the business world, this specific quote provided a much needed translation that drastically simplified the foreign language of finance to a journalist like me.
