Richard Powell has more than thirty years of experience managing professional services firms and counseling clients.
On the client side, Richard specializes in CEO counseling and transitions; public affairs; and issues and crisis management. He’s counseled dozens of Fortune 500 CEOs as well as several world leaders. Many of his client engagements have been global in nature working in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
He has managed or been on the senior leadership team of communications, lobbying, financial advisory, family office and venture capital firms during his career. He served as Vice Chairman of Teneo, Global COO of Burson-Marsteller and Managing Director of Quinn Gilespie & Associates. He was also global head of communications for Bloomberg LP.
Richard has a BBA in Business and BA in Political Science from Southern Methodist University. A native of Tennessee, he resides in New York City and has two beautiful daughters.
Having managed several excellent firms over the years, I’ve been blessed to work with hundreds of young colleagues. It’s gratifying to see many of them now occupying senior positions at major corporations, agencies, nonprofits and universities. I love when I hear from someone that I had some small impact on their path to success.
I’ve been lucky to pursue my passion for travel over the years by visiting almost 60 countries (so far). The downside is I’ve twice found myself in the middle of a revolution (or almost-revolution).
She’d say she’s proud to have raised a southern gentleman.
I believe much of my early success as a communications practitioner was based on my writing skills: clear and concise writing has always been essential in our business. And having managed many crisis situations, I believe I’m good under pressure and able to look at complex issues and devise simple, actionable plans.
Snow crab legs – nothing else comes close.
My perfect client is one who understands that he/she brings unique knowledge and skills to the table and so do I. And that working together we can be better than either one of us could have been alone. Listening and learning from each other and driving toward the desired outcome is so rewarding. I’m fortunate to be friends with many clients years after working together because we were able to form that respectful, collaborative partnership.
Traveling; reading history and biographies; golf; listening to Taylor Swift with my two daughters; and watching my hometown school’s sports teams.
When a team I’m a part of is firing on all cylinders, working well together and making magic happen.
The guy that played Wags in “Billions” – I’m told we look alike.
