Observations from Managing Partner Jen Prosek in the Leading in Volatile Times Newsletter.
Milken InstituteGlobal Conference, which takes place in Los Angeles from May 3-6, is one of the most important annual events on my calendar. About a month out, I’m spending a lot of time making sure my team and I “monetize the mingle,” meaning we are maxing out our time there on a number of levels. This is critical not just for Milken, but for any conference. It all starts with analyzing whether a specific event is “your conference.”
Milken is by far the most useful and productive conference if you are looking to meet investors or getin front of decision makers in financial services. This is not to say that other industries (tech and healthcare, for example) are not represented, but this conference is less for the Global Fortune 500+ and more for investors and asset managers. Attendees include CEOs, founders, and CIOs of the most elite investment firms in the world, all of them mixing and mingling for allocations, deal flow, and great, mind-expanding content.
Unlike most conferences Milken is 90 percent dominated by decision-maker level people. Do the event right and you will walk away with critical new business connections, a brand boost, commercial impact, and professional development. Do it wrong and you’ll waste an exceptional amount of time and money (a single ticket costs $50,000).
So if you’re planning to go to Milken, you ask yourself whether you have the right meetings set up (for example, with investors, potential partners, CEOs, influencers and reporters) if you are “in” the right private events, and if you have a content strategy to maximize the insights you can pick up from the stage show.
If you haven’t planned in advance, you’ve already lost the game (and probably have no hotel or meeting space to boot!).
This is my thirteenth Milken. Here are some tips I’ve picked up along the way, and some questions every attendee should be considering.
2026 will mean even more crowds and complex logistics due to ongoing construction at the Hilton and the surrounding areas. Many people who show up in Beverly Hills and “hang around the hoop” rather than register for the actual conference may be surprised to learn that the Waldorf will require a Milken badge to enter.
Milken has become an undeniable must-do for me as a CEO and founder with a focus on the financial sector. And it’s been fun to teach my client CEOs and founders how to maximize Milken and secure the value I have found for my own business. So, if you are going to Milken in a few weeks, you still have time. Get planning and monetize the mingle!
