Daniel Hunter

Daniel Hunter brings to Prosek a depth of communications experience from both the agency and corporate worlds, with a focus on transaction communications, crisis and issue management and campaigns. 

Prior to joining Prosek in New York, Daniel held Head of Media and Head of Corporate Affairs positions in London, including at Barclays and Nomura, running communications across investment banking, commercial banking, personal banking, wealth and asset management. 

Before going in-house at the start of the global financial crisis, Daniel worked for two global PR agencies focusing on oil and gas, renewable energy and capital markets. Daniel graduated with a degree in economics and corporate finance from The University of London. 

Q & A

What are you most proud of in your public relations/ events career?
Firstly, media relations at Barclays Capital in London as the financial crisis unfolded and the fear of contagion spread, then leading comms for Barclays during the acquisition and integration of Lehman Brothers in New York. These gave me a front row seat to the most dramatic, economically frightening events seen in generations.

Secondly, against the backdrop of the global recessionary narrative that banks aren’t lending, won and maintained the reputation that Barclays was the most willing lender, greatly elevating the firm’s license to operate over peers. 

Thirdly, handling a multitude of crises, from benchmark manipulation and hedge fund frauds to assisting corporates overcome crippling industrial relations issues that are pushing them towards bankruptcy. 

Name one thing most people don’t know about you.
Each year I spend a week mountain climbing. 

How would your mother describe you?
“You’re like a straight, tall tree”. She didn’t explain it to me either. 

What are your greatest strengths as a public relations practitioner?
Helping executives out of their comfort zone to recognize organizational weaknesses and opportunities, and assisting them to move toward outcomes that profit them and their firms.

What is your favorite food?
It’s a close call between Lebanese, Thai and Japanese. 

Describe your perfect client.
One whom knows the immense benefit of a trusted, confidential partnership, and appreciates the way things are done in addition to the end result. 

What three hobbies or activities do you enjoy most?
Raising my three children, hiking with the dogs, and reading

What’s your favorite part of the workday?
The moment the phone rings with a superb issue to manage, transaction to support or campaign to launch, and the evenings we gather in a quiet watering hole to mark a moment of great comms success.

Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
If he were living, Richard Burton - think Major Smith in Where Eagles Dare.
