Deirdre Bolton

Managing Director
New York

Deirdre Bolton is a television journalist, specializing in business and financial news. She is best known for her coverage of “alternative investing”, from hedge funds to private equity to angel and venture capital investing.

She uses her mastery of these subjects, along with her business and financial acumen to cover world economic events for ABC NEWS on “Good Morning America”, “World News Tonight” and “Nightline”.

Ms. Bolton previously developed and hosted “Women & Money with Deirdre Bolton” and “Risk & Reward with Deirdre Bolton”, at the Fox Business Network. Prior to those shows, she created and hosted the highly-regarded “Money Moves with Deirdre Bolton” at Bloomberg TV; the show became a forum for the most astute practitioners in alternative investing.

She has covered key international events, including reporting from Singapore for the historic meeting between South Korea, the U.S., and North Korea, as well as on-the-ground reporting from Paris on the terror attacks.

Ms. Bolton began her career in institutional equity sales at CDC North America and Société Générale. She completed most of her undergraduate and graduate coursework in France and holds a degree in English and French literature from the University of Iowa and a master's degree in French literature from New York University. Over the course of her career, she has lived and worked in Paris, London, and Singapore. She currently lives in New York City with her two sons (and a mischievous dog, Rockie).

Bolton has a personal interest in illustration, has developed that talent at The School of Visual Arts, where she developed a cartoon book (paper and digital) on financial literacy; she is also a certified executive coach through Columbia University’s Coaching Certification Program, and is a Fellow with Tribeca Disruptive Innovation, which brings together thought leaders in media, technology and science.

Q & A

What are you most proud of in your communications career?
I am proudest of building my career globally, in francophone and anglophone worlds. From banking to media, I have lived, worked and/or reported from numerous continents. In TV, some reporting assignments were more intense than others, and I am very proud of the teamwork that allowed us to succeed.

Name one thing most people don’t know about you.
Despite living in big cities since I was 17 years old, I grew up around farms and would buy milk and produce by leaving cash in a farmer’s unlocked cigar box and making my own change.

How would your mother describe you?
“Delightful” (excluding my teen years, of course)

What are your greatest strengths as a communications practitioner?
As a former journalist, my intuition is keenly honed. I am an excellent listener– and hear what is spoken and understand what is unspoken.

What is your favorite food?
So many!! Brick oven pizzas are very high on the list…

Describe your perfect client.
A client who is open-minded and counts on collaborating.

What three hobbies or activities do you enjoy most?
Spending time in Central Park with my dog, Rockie; jogging around the Reservoir solo or with other running friends. Cross-country skiing (out West, with family).

What’s your favorite part of the workday?
After years of getting up to host morning TV at 2:30am, I am still an early bird! I like brainstorming when it is quiet.

Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
Rachel Brosnahan, especially if we can share wardrobes!

What is your favorite quote?
From Steve Jobs, when he was CEO of Pixar, “The most powerful person in the world is the storyteller.”
