Michael Gural-Maiello, CAIA
Senior Vice President, Head of Content Marketing
Mr. Gural-Maiello has held executive positions at asset management firms, most recently with Cowen Inc., where he was managing director and co-head of marketing and investor relations for Cowen’s alternative investment boutique. At Cowen he oversaw the marketing and investor relations functions for a variety of businesses including, event driven, merger arbitrage and activist strategies, a global macro hedge fund, two long short equity funds, a healthcare venture capital fund, a healthcare royalties fund and a family of private real estate debt and equity funds. Prior to Cowen, he was Director of Marketing Communications for Third Avenue Management, responsible for all of the firm’s written communications with clients and prospects. At both Cowen and Third Avenue, and for private clients, Mr. Gural-Maiello has written speeches for both professional and personal occasions and has also helped to script executive media appearances.
For ten years, Mr. Gural-Maiello worked for Forbes, writing and editing for both the magazine and website, focusing his coverage on asset managers and investment banks. He has made frequent radio and television appearances for Fox Business, CNBC and CNN. He has also written for The Daily, Reuters, The New York Times, The Daily Beast, The San Francisco Chronicle, McSweeney’s, The New Yorker and The Booth Review of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Mr. Gural-Maiello has a B.A. in Theatre with general honors (magna cum laude) from the University of New Mexico. He holds a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation as well as FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 licenses.

What are you most proud of in your public relations career?
In my journalism days, I was fortunate to work on a story that helped the American heirs of Holocaust survivors collect on long promised, but denied, life insurance payments they were due. This has driven me to seek tangible results, where they can be found.

What are your greatest strengths as a public relations practitioner?
Creativity and research ability.
What is your favorite food?
Hatch Green Chile (hot as possible).

My perfect client has an open mind guided by a strong point of view.
What three hobbies or activities do you enjoy most?
Writing, chess, and training to be a surprise entrant in The Royal Rumble.

That depends on when we’ve scheduled our meeting.

I write, act and direct my own story.
