Tom has been practicing investor relations for his entire professional career, beginning in-house with several major telecommunications companies, and transitioning to the agency world seven years ago. Tom joined Prosek Partners in early 2005 to help cultivate the firm’s investor relations capabilities, and grew the practice’s revenues by 100% in the first year.
He serves as the day-to-day contact for several clients’ financial communications and investor relations programs, with core competencies in technology and the transportation industry. In addition, he provides senior investor relations counsel on a number of the firm’s other investor relations clients. He has worked extensively on mergers and acquisitions, corporate and investor communications, and divestitures and retail shareowner programming within the corporate and agency settings.
Tom believes that trust is the foundation upon which mutual success is built. Prosek’s investor relations clients trust the team to go the extra mile, to know their businesses as well as they do, and to provide them with honest and candid counsel to help them differentiate their companies from the competition.
Tom is a graduate of The College of New Jersey, has served on the Corporate Advisory Council of the National Association of Investors Corporation (NAIC) and is a current member of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI).
Q & A
What are you most proud of in your public relations career?
I am most proud of my current position, working for a firm where I have the autonomy to build a practice based on my vision with the full support and resources of dynamic ownership.
Name one thing most people don’t know about you.
I have set myself on fire twice.
How would your mother describe you?
My mother suffers from delusions of my grandeur...the site is not big enough for all the platitudes. However, in summary, she would say that I am kind hearted, considerate and a peace maker. She'd probably also tell you I was smart.
What are your greatest strengths as a public relations practitioner?
I know how to listen to, not just hear, what is being said. I also recognize that this is a 24/7 business, and that sacrifices will need to be made from time to time.
What is your favorite food?
Describe your perfect client.
One that views us as a partner, not a vendor. One that recognizes that if they had all the answers, they wouldn't need IR support. And above all, one who trusts our judgment, respects our opinions, and makes us work for our rewards.
What three hobbies or activities do you enjoy most?
Reading, home theater and cooking.
What’s your favorite part of the workday?
Morning client briefings, followed very closely by afternoon coffee run.
Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
Bea Arthur (but from the Maude days...not the Golden Girls.)
Seriously, though, I think Jack Black could handle it.
Are you cat, dog, fish, ferret or bird person? Or none of the above?
What is your favorite quote?
Learn to swim before the ship sinks. -Thom Yorke
