Beyond the Day-to-Day: Inside Prosek’s Private Markets Immersion Program

By Allie Rosenfeld

When I first heard about Prosek’s new Private Markets Immersion Program, I immediately raised my hand to participate. The opportunity to step back into a classroom-like setting, while continuing to deepen my knowledge of our clients and the broader private markets industry, was something I didn’t want to miss. I was excited by the chance to step outside of my day-to-day work and dedicate time to learning more about the industry we advise every day. And while the program itself was new, the investment in continued learning felt very true to my existing experience at Prosek.

The PM Immersion Program gave Prosekians at all levels the opportunity to participate in an intensive course covering all aspects of private markets. We learned everything from how the private equity and credit industries were created, to how the media landscape has shifted, and what specific reporters and outlets are interested in covering today. The program was broken up into sessions over the course of three months, led by senior leaders at the firm with deep sector expertise and knowledge on the asset classes discussed and our client base.

Hearing specific scenarios they had encountered throughout their career, from navigating difficult situations to outlining the cadence of a deal announcement, allowed us to immerse ourselves in private markets and come back to our account teams and clients more well-informed and able to provide counsel and guidance through an increasingly strategic lens.

From the first day of the program, sessions were led at a thoughtful pace, diving deep into the history of the asset class, defining the beneficiaries and capital structure, and exploring the media landscape. We then focused on supporting a fund or deal announcement from the PR perspective, including considerations like deciding which wire service to use, how to execute on a seamless day-of execution strategy,  and following the announcement, how to further amplify the news.

The PM Immersion Program provided an opportunity to put all the puzzle pieces together when coming back to my day-to-day client work. I was able to take a step back and think about our private markets work more broadly. A deal announcement, for example, isn’t just a singular announcement, but an opportunity to highlight an investor’s momentum. It can act as day one of a communications strategy that we can then continue to amplify as a team, building on the investor’s longer-term narrative that we’re continuously supporting.

Being part of Prosek’s first PM Immersion Program gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into an area that is central to so much of my clients’ work. Participating in professional development programs has enabled me to further my knowledge and provide more confident, well-informed counsel to my clients as I continue to progress in my career.

For me, this experience reinforced just how important it is to continue learning throughout your career and to seek out opportunities that deepen your understanding beyond your day-to-day work, and it’s why I’d recommend it to anyone.
