  • Fairly historic news this week in the UK as the pound plunged as the Bank of England cut interest rates for the first time since 2009. The Bank of England has unveiled a four-pronged stimulus package designed to boost the economy and prevent a recession following the vote to leave the European Union. In what economists described as a “shot in the arm” for the UK economy, the nine members of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee delivered a package of measures designed to prevent a Brexit-induced slump, keep banks lending and consumers and businesses spending.
  • Our dearly loved Brit, David Attenborough could help prevent violence in prisons after a study found that showing nature videos to inmates cuts levels of disorder behind bars. Prisoners who viewed footage of the natural world showed reduced levels of aggression and were less likely to be disciplined than those in similar cellblocks, according to research presented at the American Psychological Association's annual convention.
  • As you all know, tonight is the start of the Rio Olympics! With Andy Murray, Mo Farrah and around 50 other British athletes expected to take part in the games, and all are setting their sights on gold. Although, off to a slightly shaky start as Andy Murray almost knocked out Princess Anne in his role as official flag-bearer! Good luck to all those taking part on both sides of the pond!
