- On Thursday, the British government published the long-awaited Repeal Bill which acts as a first judicial step in severing the country’s ties to the EU. The aim of this legislation is to convert all EU directives into British law, in order to make them fully amendable by the country’s parliament. The draft legislation is still pending scrutiny and a vote in both houses.
- A weakened pound may be bad news for British importers, but it has significantly boosted the local tourism industry. In the first three months of 2017, the number of holidaymakers visiting the UK grew by more than 21%. The visitors spent a record amount of £4.4 billion while in the country.
- Yesterday, Her Majesty the Queen opened the new Metropolitan Police headquarters in London in the presence of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh. The royal couple were given a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities and treated to a rare demonstration of the police department’s latest bomb disposal robot.
