In sports, two major events take place in May: The Kentucky Derby (May 2) and the French Open (May 24-June 7).
PRSA hosts a couple of events for agencies and corporate communicators. In Laguna, California, from May 3-5, "PR agency owners and senior counselors come together at the Counselors Academy Conference to learn new strategies for managing their operations, clients and employees." Then, on May 18-19 in Chicago, PRSA hosts its Connect 15 Conference, which focuses on internal communications best practice. The 56th Parliament of the United Kingdom to be decided on May 7 during its general election. More info here.
This year's Cannes Film Festival is on May 13-24, with "Standing Tall", directed by Emmanuelle Bercot, kicking off the festival. This is the second time in the festival's history to have a film directed by a woman to open the festival. The first being "A Man in Love" by Diane Kurys in 1987.
No matter what industry you're in, Internet Week New York is a must-attend conference. Taking place on May 18-24 in New York City, this annual event celebrates technology's impact on business and culture. Check out the schedule for more details and here's a list of speakers.
