The Art of Inspiration

By Michael Rofrano, Annie Kozak, Mint Thongongarj, Bo Hwang

In honor of National Creativity Day on May 30, we asked designers across Prophecy – Prosek’s strategic branding and go to market agency – a simple question: what fuels your creativity?

Their answers reveal the rituals, inspirations, and unexpected moments that spark ideas and remind us that creativity looks a little different for everyone.

Michael Rofrano, Design Director (NYC)

What inspires me to create my best work is a blend of passion, environment, and experience. A major source of inspiration comes from the automotive and racing world. Formula 1 and Ford Racing to early morning drives on backroads and the culture surrounding Cars & Coffee events, where precision, storytelling, and design constantly fuel my creative thinking.

I also draw inspiration from magazines and editorial design, architecture, and simply experiencing the world around me. Whether it’s a thoughtfully designed billboard, poster, or space encountered while exploring somewhere new. Pair that with great music, a comfortable creative environment, the latest edition of National Geographic, Road & Track, Food & Wine, or Travel + Leisure, and it becomes the perfect setting for ideas to take shape.

Annie Kozak, Senior Designer (NYC)

Like most creatives, my greatest sources of inspiration often come from museum visits, gallery shows, and conferences. Most recently, I had the opportunity to attend Brand New’s design showcase, First Round. Being in spaces where I can experience other people’s work and learn about their creative processes brings me out of my usual routine and keeps my brain fresh and inspired.

More specifically, what really energizes me is the beginning of a project. The possibilities of what it can become are exciting, and there’s room to be more aspirational at that stage. The process of discovering an idea and the moment when everything finally clicks feels like fuel on a fire.

Mint Thongongarj, Senior Designer (NYC)

I find inspiration through my love of interior design and travel. Experiencing different cultures, spaces, and ways of living continually shapes how I think creatively and approach design. To me, good design is not just about aesthetics — it should create impact, improve everyday experiences, and solve problems in thoughtful ways.

Bo Hwang, Senior Designer (NYC)

A lot of my ideas come when I step away from screens! While running, looking at nature, or even taking a shower. Those moments help me slow down mentally and notice connections, emotions, and visual patterns more intuitively.
