Tsunami 'Live' Coverage Shows the Reach of Newspapers
The startling and sometimes hypnotic video coverage of the tsunami in Japan that greeted us on the news this morning has highlighted the reach of newspapers overseas.
As has been widely tweeted (thank you, @brianstelter from The New York Times), it’s the newspaper bureaus overseas that are supplying the video feeds to television stations because of their resources on the ground in Japan and elsewhere in Asia.
A tragic story that seems prime for TV is actually being covered “live” by newspapers via television and online media.
Even NPR this morning tweeted for help, asking Twitter followers, “We need your help adding online resources related to the Japan quake and tsunami to crisiswiki.org. Instructions on homepage. Pls help & RT.”
