Carleton is a Senior Vice President at Prosek. Prior to joining Prosek in 2024, she spent a decade working as a financial journalist in New York appearing on television, print, and online.
Her most recent role was at Barron’s, where she covered hedge funds and the big banks. She was also a panelist and fill-in anchor for the Barron’s Roundtable, airing weekly on Fox Business. During her time at Barron’s she covered the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and the upheaval in the banking sector during the spring of 2023. She regularly interviewed executives from the nation’s largest banks and asset managers.
Before joining Barron’s she was the hedge fund reporter for the New York Post, where she routinely broke news on activist situations and key players in the hedge fund industry. She credits her time at the Post for honing her skills for finding what makes a great story. Carleton has also worked for TheStreet and CNBC.
During her career in journalism, Carleton frequently moderated panels during Barron’s live events as well as at the SALT Conference and the iConnections Global Alts Conference.
Journalism wasn’t always Carleton’s career. She worked as a credit and pricing analyst with LEAF Financial in her native Philadelphia. Three thousand miles later, she found her passion for financial education when she started working for Laird Norton Tyee in Seattle (now Laird Norton Wetherby) as a Client Service Associate. In addition to assisting high-net-worth families with their financial planning needs, Carleton also developed a financial literacy curriculum for Laird Norton clients that was also used in Seattle public schools.
Carleton is a graduate of George Washington University, where she studied International Affairs and Anthropology and spent a semester in Buenos Aires.
Q & A
What are you most proud of in your career?
I’ve worked in different industries and different geographies but I have still maintained the friendships from all of the different parts of my career. As the years pass, it’s always an amazing feeling when you can be helpful to someone who once helped you and to see people you once helped go on to do big things.
Name one thing most people don’t know about you.
I climbed Mount St. Helens. Pro tip: best to do it before snow falls!
How would your mother describe you?
A cautious risk taker.
What are your greatest strengths as a communications practitioner?
With my journalism background, I know how to “find the story” in any situation. Also, having worked in a variety of newsroom cultures (television, print, and tabloid), I know how to adapt those stories for different audiences and mediums.
What is your favorite food?
I really love that just about every culture has some version of a dumpling: pierogies, ravioli, gyoza, empanadas, samosas, etc. I will eagerly try any and all of them!
Describe your perfect client.
A client who is curious, collaborative, and views Prosek as part of their team.
What three hobbies or activities do you enjoy most?
Tango dancing, going to the theatre, and hiking
What’s your favorite part of the workday?
The first half hour when I’m scanning news and emails and updating my attack plan for the day.
Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
Christina Ricci -- we’re roughly the same age and she’s been one of my favorite actresses since the Addams Family movies.
