Beck also managed communications and media relations for former US Representatives Sander Levin (D-MI), Robert Matsui (D-CA), and Brian Baird (D-WA). He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in international affairs from James Madison University, with a minor in Spanish.

Q & A

What are you most proud of in your career?
The relationships I’ve built through the years. Working through high-profile policy debates and fast-paced crisis communications forges teams by fire. I’m very proud of the network of people I’ve worked with and the milestones we’ve achieved along the way.

Name one thing most people don’t know about you.
My wife signed me up to coach my (then) kindergartner’s rec soccer team while I was on a work trip. The team is still together and it’s secretly one of my favorite things to do.

How would your mother describe you?
Is there a character limit? I’m an only child…

What are your greatest strengths as a communications practitioner?
I enjoy wrestling with details and data to bring issues to life and tell a story that resonates with audiences. I also have a natural curiosity that helps to look around corners and be prepared.

What is your favorite food?
I love to cook and try new foods. But, if I smell buffalo wings, I can’t stop thinking about them until I have some.

Describe your perfect client.
A company or organization that recognizes the power of communications and gives us a seat at the table to offer creative contributions that drive success.

What three hobbies or activities do you enjoy most?
Watching our boys play all the sports. We’re chronically oversubscribed every season and it can be exhausting, but it’s rewarding to watch them grow and have fun with their teammates.

I also enjoy a good bike commute and like to relax with a weekend family camping trip whenever we have a break in sports.

What’s your favorite part of the workday?
Handling curveballs quickly and efficiently so they don’t detract from your day-to-day.

Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
My wife would like to formally request Liev Schreiber.

What is your favorite quote?
“You can observe a lot by just watching.” – Yogi Berra
