In our latest Path to Prosek, Ciara Paris shares her journey from Apprentice to Account Executive in our London office.
Tell us about your Prosek experience. What’s it been like, and what have you been up to?
Since joining the London office in January 2024, I’ve witnessed firsthand how quickly the team is growing, and I’ve enjoyed seeing how new colleagues are continually bringing fresh energy and perspectives. That sense of momentum has contributed to making me feel like I’m working in an environment where I’m constantly learning. Sometimes that learning is more tactical, like understanding how a particular client likes their agenda formatted; other times, it’s more technical, such as exploring the intricacies of the EU AI Act or analysing why credit spreads might become appealing during a period of market volatility.
A recent highlight was attending a client event focused on the role of private capital in driving social progress. It featured a fireside chat with Rory Stewart, former MP, diplomat, soldier, author and co-host of the hit podcast, “The Rest is Politics.” I had the opportunity to ask a question during the discussion, and Rory said he, “really, really liked” it—which was a great moment and definitely one to remember!
Beyond client work, I’ve also appreciated the opportunity to get involved in internal initiatives. Giving back to the community is something close to my heart, so I’ve really enjoyed helping coordinate volunteering efforts in the London office. More recently, we organised a charity run (or walk!) and are now looking to build on that with longer-term community programmes and engagement.
What was the PA programme like for you?
It’s hard to believe I finished the PA programme just over a year ago; it already feels like so much has happened since! It was definitely intense at first…it felt a bit like being thrown in at the deep end, but I quickly found my footing. As things started to click, I found myself really enjoying the pace and variety. I was never on my own, though; having the support, guidance and encouragement of my colleagues made a huge difference and helped me build confidence early on. Looking back, the intensity was part of what made it so rewarding—I learned a huge amount, and at a much faster pace than I expected.
Coming straight from a humanities degree at university where you have weeks to write an essay, the fast-paced nature of the programme was definitely a shift, but a refreshing one. On the PA programme, you learn a lot in a short space of time, and you’re never bored!
Why would you recommend others join/apply to the PA programme?
I’d recommend the PA programme to anyone who’s curious, driven, and looking for a fast-paced, engaging environment. It’s an intense and exciting introduction to the world of financial communications (and for me, the world of corporate work), and it’s a steep learning curve in the best way. You’re involved in real work from day one, which is part of what makes the experience so rewarding.
One thing that really stood out to me was how it doesn’t matter what academic background you came from. You don’t need a finance degree to succeed here: many of my colleagues, like me, come from humanities backgrounds. What matters most is being curious, adaptable, and open to learning.
I never had a clear career path in mind; I just knew I wanted to be challenged every day, and I can definitely say that I am here! No two days are the same, and I’m constantly learning, thinking on my feet, and developing new skills. For anyone who thrives in that kind of environment, the PA programme is an incredible place to start.
What are the top 1-2 things you’ve learned at Prosek, and how have those lessons helped you succeed here?
Don’t sweat the small stuff: In a fast-paced environment, there simply isn’t time to second-guess yourself over small mistakes—which I know is easier said than done! Learning to take things in my stride, prioritise what really matters, take feedback onboard, and keep moving forward has helped me become more resilient and confident.
Stay open to everything, and have faith in your own abilities: I’ve surprised myself by enjoying things I initially thought I’d struggle with. For example, I’ve never considered myself a naturally organised person. In fact, I’d probably have described myself as quite disorganised at school and university. But once I had the space to figure out what worked for me, it’s now become one of my key strengths, and my colour-coordinated calendar is a point of pride!
Being open-minded has helped me discover new areas of interest, and I’ve learned about topics I’d never even heard of before…because I said yes to every opportunity.
If you had to choose, what’s been your favorite moment at Prosek since joining?
It’s hard to choose just one standout moment at Prosek because there have been many smaller achievements that have meant a lot. Whether it was joining my first client call (and later having the confidence to speak on one), staffing my first media interview, or attending my first client event, each of these experiences has helped me grow and build confidence.
A key experience for me has been taking a media opportunity from start to finish. Pitching the reporter, securing their interest, briefing the spokesperson, staffing the interview, and then seeing the coverage published. It was incredibly rewarding to see how each step fits together and to recognise the role I played in ensuring my client was featured in a key publication.
