Jim advises public and private markets clients on their most important communications priorities, often at the nexus of Washington and Wall Street. He leads strategic communications engagements related to corporate reputation, advocacy campaigns, legal and regulatory matters, and crises. Prior to Prosek, he was a partner at Hamilton Place Strategies (HPS) in Washington, D.C., where he helped lead the firm’s M&A practice and a variety of successful public affairs campaigns. Earlier in his career, Jim was a managing director and member of the executive committee at Kekst and Company, where he worked on several historic M&A, bankruptcy, and activist shareholder situations as well as a large portfolio of private equity, private credit, and hedge fund accounts.
Jim earned a Ph.D. in history from the College of William & Mary and B.A. magna cum laude from Boston College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is the author of Dunmore’s New World (University of Virginia Press), a book about the British Empire in the era of the American Revolution. Jim is also a member of the William & Mary Graduate Studies Advisory Board and has served as co-chair of its communications and advocacy committee.
I’ve had a very unconventional career path, with transitions from academia to financial communications to public affairs. Along the way, I’ve had to learn quickly in some of the most demanding situations our profession has to offer.
I played quarterback and nose tackle for my high school football team, which is an unusual combination.
I was lucky to have an extremely biased mother, so I’ll spare you the answer here.
