Stephen began his career as an actor, after graduating from Lancaster University in Avant Garde Theatre and English. He later received a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing before arriving at HM Treasury in 2004 where he worked in a number of different positions, including Head of G20 Logistics in 2009 for the UK’s Presidency and then Head of International Sanctions.
Following six years at the Treasury, Stephen then worked for Barclays as Head of Public Policy for the retail bank, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Group Chief Executive and Director of Strategic Communications before joining KPMG as Head of Communications.
More recently, Stephen spent four years at Blackstone where he was a Senior Managing Director and Head of Corporate Affairs for EMEA before joining BT as Chief Corporate Affairs and Brand Officer.
Following the great careers of so many people I’ve worked with over the years.
On a personal note, I think I’d have to say managing the logistics of the G20 Presidency in 2009 and getting to meet Her Majesty the Queen, and the Obamas at the Palace. That was an incredible experience.
I used to be an actor… actually I think that’s a bit of an open secret now!
Stubborn, direct and persistent.
I think the ability to think slightly differently about a problem, directness and persistence!
Pretty much any curry.
One that challenges and enjoys being challenged.
Oil painting, cooking, writing.
First thing in the morning – coffee, papers and wondering what will hit you today!
I’d love to say Ryan Gosling but probably someone like Paddy Considine!
Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.
