My New Girl Power Hero: The Hunger Games' Katniss Everdeen
I saw The Hunger Games last week and I must say it was terrific. I admit, I'm motivated by an ass-kicking woman. My all-time idol was Beatrix Kiddo, in her yellow track suit, from Kill Bill. But Hunger Games' heroine is now top dog in my book. Katniss Everdeen has the skills of a killer but she also has a sensitivity, empathy, authenticity and intellect that the other action heroes don't necessarily possess. As a woman who runs a business and works predominately with tough Wall Street clients, I often feel that I'm duking it out in a male-dominated, sometimes Mad Max-esque kind of world. But, as evidenced by Katniss, it takes more than being a killer to succeed in business. It takes humility, relationships, empathy and resourcefulness, too.
My partner Mark gave me one of the funniest and biggest compliments ever the other day. He said, "If Katniss Everdeen read Great by Choice, she would be Jen Prosek."
